Northside highlights from August 2024
Juana Monreal Oviedo: A Leader Recognized
Northside Episcopal and the Diocese of Texas proudly recognized Juana Monreal Oviedo for her leadership and deepening journey into the Episcopal tradition. Juana, we are grateful for your courage and commitment. Special thanks to Estela Lopez, Missioner for Congregational Vitality-Connections in the Diocese of Texas for presenting this well-deserved award in person.
Welcome Rose Ponder to the Community Café Team
We are excited to welcome Rose Ponder to the Community Café launch team! This ministry is growing quickly, and we invite you to join us in this new journey of hospitality and service. Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities to get involved.
National Grief Awareness Day: Remembering Together
On National Grief Awareness Day, our community came together online for an hour of shared remembrance. We honored the memories of loved ones and explored ways to stay vital, even in times of deep loss. Thank you to everyone who joined us in creating a space for healing and connection.
Fire in the Neighborhood: A Quick Response
While returning consecrated elements to the earth, we noticed smoke at the end of the street—a cigarette had sparked a brush fire. Thanks to the swift actions of Saint-in-the-Making, Lisa Mace, who drew on her long-lost volunteer firefighting skills, the fire was stopped just as it reached a neighbor’s porch. This moment reminds us of the diverse gifts each person brings to the body of Christ.
Backpack Blessings: Back to School with Grace
We celebrated another back-to-school Sunday, blessing teachers and students of all ages. It was a joyful time of prayer and community support as we asked for grace and protection over everyone returning to the classroom. Estela Lopez, we deeply appreciate your presence and prayers during this special moment!
Thank you to all who made these moments in August real, we look forward to our continued journey together.
